While the The Brannan Group, LLC was officially created in 2015, its impetus came from the forming of the Naval Postgraduate School's Center for Homeland Defense and Security (NPS/CHDS) in Monterey, California following the tragic events of 9/11. There, a group of leaders from FBI, state & local police, fire, military, intelligence, public health, emergency management, U.S. Coast Guard, and other entities were selected for a specialized program on security studies focused upon terrorism, both international and domestic. A rigorous graduate program educating those who are considered to be the nation's present and future leaders, NPS/CHDS is considered the nation's center of excellence in homeland security education.

Kevin D. Eack, now Principal of The Brannan Group, LLC attended and graduated from NPS/CHDS in 2007 (Cohort 0503/0504), and was subsequently elected alumni president. During that two year program the idea of harnessing the synergy around this talented group of highly motivated leaders into a consulting company was born. After completing his 28 year career in law enforcement in 2011, Kevin led the security team that safeguarded the personnel, processes, financial information and personal data at State Farm's national online bank, based in Bloomington, Illinois. Tied to a Fortune 50 insurance company, Kevin was responsible for security operations for the national online bank for four years. It was then that he decided to reach out to former colleagues and fellow students at NPS/CHDS to start the company. Named after his family's Irish roots, The Brannan Group, LLC bears the family crest as part of its logo.

Today over fifty subject matter experts from a variety of security disciplines are engaged in The Brannan Group, LLC. Each stand ready to weigh in to any security related problem or issue for our clients, nationwide and worldwide.
